Mayor Kim Driscoll plans a budget that will help keep local jobs and stimulate new business opportunities in Salem.  Currently the city receives significant funding from the Salem Harbor Station power plant; however after this year their agreement with the city  will expire.  A major factor in the new $129 Million budget that Driscoll has set forth, is the money that won’t be coming from the local power plant.  The new budget will allocate $49 million for education and $1 million to preserve jobs that the federal government will no longer be paying for.  The remaining funds will be used to help combat poor economic conditions by opening up new job opportunities, increasing local business, and supplementing  and offsetting other government and federal losses.  Its a tough economic time for all of us right now as Americans and if we all stick together as a universal community we can offset and help fix some of these issues that are keeping our country in a “slump” if you will.  But no matter how you look at the economy, what Mayor Kim Driscoll has ton is far greater than just spend a budget for her city; she has utilized those funds to create hope and opportunity in her region.  We can all take something away from this example, of how hard work and strategic debt planning can actually help us rock back from this recession.  I give two thumbs up for what she is doing and I fully support the movement.
