Memphis Sickle Cell Center Receives $250,000 in Funding From The County Budget
Recently the Memphis County Commission passed a new budget that would help include dedicated funding of at least $250,000 for the Sickle Cell Center of Memphis. Conveniently located at Methodist University Hospital, so you can rest assured they will have the capacity to service many patients. Unfortunately those suffering from sickle cell currently have to seek treatment at the emergency room, which does not have the same access to the necessary tools required to treat both life-threatening and non-threatening illnesses related to Sickle Cell. According to Mark H. Yancy, major gifts coordinator for Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare there are nearly 1,700 people in Memphis alone that suffer from Sickle Cell.
