Nine People Have Drowned On The Moscow River in Russia’s capital
According to officials, A pleasure boat has sunk on the Moscow River in Russia’s capital, killing nine people. The boat was said to be hosting a birthday party when it crashed into a barge early Sunday morning. Seven out of the sixteen people on board were said to to have been rescued.
Vladimir Markin, official involved in the investigation, told the Associated Press news agency that one of the survivors had said he worked at the US embassy. Witnesses were quoted as saying that the boat, named the Swallow, was moving in a weird manner before colliding with the barge.
Authorities were said to be focusing on the owner and captain of the Swallow, Gennady Zinger, who was one of those who drowned on the boat. Mr Zinger had violated boating rules three times in the past, including exceeding the boat’s maximum capacity of 12.
