Michael Showers, Actor on HBO’s Treme, Found Dead In Mississippi River
The New Orleans Times-Picayune has reported that Michael Showers, the “Treme” actor was found dead in the Mississippi River on Wednesday, his death ruled a drowning, the Orleans Parish coroner’s office announced on Friday.
The coroner’s office performed an autopsy and found no signs of trauma to the actor, who was only 45.
The coroner also said that Showers had been in the river for approximately two days before he was pulled out of the water.
The toxicology report is still being processed.
Showers body was pulled from a river near New Orleans’ French Quarter on Wednesday, after the captain of the Steamboat Natchez saw the body drifting in the Mississippi. His girlfriend, Melinda Carlos, reported him missing the previous night.
According to Carlos, the last time she saw Showers was on Monday, as he left to go workout with a friend named “Joe.”
The Times-Picayune also reported that Sheriff’s Office is looking for an unidentified man who was with Showers on Monday. They are searching for his car as well.
Showers latest role was as police Capt. John Guidry on the HBO series “Treme,” which follows New Orleans residents’ efforts to rebuild and start their lives after Hurricane Katrina. Treme creator David Simon called Showers “a fine actor who contributed his talents to our drama in the warmest and most professional way.”
