7 Tips for Keeping Your Mind Fit and Healthy
Do you ever feel numb in the brain? Do you worry that your brain is aging faster than it should? The brain is a muscle and it starts to decline in your 20’s. The more you use it, the better it will work for you. Whether you’re worried about degenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s or just want to be proactive, here are some great ideas to keep your mind sharp:
Try to Become Ambidextrous
The next time you need to wash something such as a countertop, use the hand that’s not dominant. If you’re right-handed, eat your dinner today with your left hand. Do the same next time you brush your teeth or when you write something down in a note to yourself. You’ll find it to be really challenging at first and it makes you stop and think. This can stimulate your brain and improve your manual dexterity.
Take Classes – Never Stop Learning
Learning a new language, learning a new skill, and taking up reading can do great things for your brain power. Even taking up classes with physical exercise can do great things for the mind, too.
Clear the Clutter
A cluttered environment really can lead to a cluttered mind. If you feel like you’re continuously fighting to remember where you’ve put something, this can lead to feeling frazzled. An organised home can make a big difference to your state of mind and the act of following a cleaning and organising regimen can be good for your mind and for your physical health, too.
Socialise
As people get older, a lot of them go on autopilot, to an extent. They follow the same patterns of habit on a daily basis. Socialising can break up the boredom and it can do great things for the mind. If you regularly expose yourself to others you’ll continually use your memory and you’ll build new memories.
Exercise
Exercise oxygenates the body and it does great things for the body and for the mind. It can boost memory power, stimulate endorphins, and reduce depression. It’ll also help you with overall feelings of wellness.
Eat Brain Food
Healthy food can equal a healthy body + help with a healthy mind. Make sure you’re eating well for your body as well as for your brain. Good fats are important for the brain (avocado, olive oil) and fish and berries as well as any antioxidant rich food can be good. That daily cup of coffee could be good for the brain as well.
Challenge Your Mind – Puzzles
Puzzles can be great brain food, too! Jigsaw puzzles, riddles, Sudoku, and other puzzles can all help you keep your brain sharp. They can be a great cognitive fitness routine! They can also calm the mind during stressful times. A jigsaw puzzle is a great way to take your mind off your troubles.
