A College Student’s Guide to Stocking Up

I think new college students have a hard time figuring out what to buy at the grocery store. You lived at home with your parents for 18 years and you still probably never looked in the pantry and analyzed the basic foods your mom or dad bought at the grocery store. There are certain foods that are always good to have on hand. I have compiled here a list of things that I think every college student should keep stocked in their pantry.

Noodles

Noodles are so easy to cook. They are cheap, and they are filling. All you have to do is boil them and then you basically have a meal. Even if you don’t have anything to put on top of them, a little bit of butter and salt and pepper goes a long way. If you have nothing else in your pantry, have noodles. Those things go a long way.

Spaghetti sauce

If you have spaghetti sauce and noodles, you always have a whole meal for the night. Spaghetti is easy to make because all you have to do is cook noodles and heat up sauce. Always have spaghetti sauce in the pantry so that you can have a pretty well-balanced meal any time.

Granola bars

I think it’s a good idea to always keep snacks at home. Rather than buying junk food like fruit roll ups or some kind of unhealthy chips, keep a stash of granola bars. They are not only healthy but they’re actually good. As you walk out the door, you can grab granola bar to last you for a couple of hours in class. These are really convenient to have.

Soup

Keeping some soup in your pantry is a really good idea. Soup is a meal in a can and all you have to do is heat it up. I always see that there are deals at grocery stores on soup. Sometimes they are all only a dollar. Stock up when prices go down! You will be grateful that you have soup when there is nothing else to eat. It’s also nice to eat on a cold day!

Cereal

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner all in a cardboard box. What more could you ask for? Cereal is such a necessary thing to have. It is the most versatile food ever! It is delicious for any time of the day and there are so many different kinds that it’s always hard to pick one.

Cream of chicken soup

There are so many things that you can make with this sauce. I will cook noodles in it sometimes or I will pour it on top of chicken. Look online for recipes and you will see how many recipes use cream of chicken. My mom always had it in the pantry at home and I guess I have made it a habit now too.

Grocery shopping is hard sometimes but if you just keep these items in your pantry at all times you will always have something to eat. What’s in your pantry? Check it out and see what else you need to stock up on.
