Top 5 Google Rumors

When it comes to the rumors that often revolve around web giant, Google – it is often difficult to separate fact from fiction. One thing is for sure, Google has been able to remain pretty tight lipped about nearly every endeavor they have ever made, and still has the utter ability to blindside users and marketers when they do an unveil. Even worse, sometimes news leaks from the company that seem insignificant on the surface, eventually prove to have the ability to disrupt the web world as we know it. You have to wonder, who is paying these people to stay so ‘mums the word?’

Google MP3 Store

One of the most recent rumors about Google as reported in the New York Times is that they will be opening up a Google MP3 store. This makes sense, especially since Google Music has been available in Beta form for a while now. This means that Google will be going head to head with both Apple and Amazon. Not so surprising really.

Yahoo Acquisition

Another rumor that has been gaining speed, especially during the last few weeks is that Google wants to buy Yahoo. After all, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em, right? But wait a minute; Google already has beaten Yahoo many times over so why would they want to buy them now? Amid anti-trust security infringements debate, this may not be in the best interest of Google. And according to the Wall Street Journal, Google isn’t really interested anyways – and is/was just helping to secure a bid from other companies. (Like Microsoft!) This little mystery will likely be solved by the end of 2011.

Self Driving Car

If you like rumors, and you love Google Earth – then this little rumor will definitely have you excited. According to insiders, Sergery Brin the mastermind behind Google is not only taking on architectural design projects as well as a car that drives itself. (Umm, what!?) For Google Earth of course! The truth is that Brin, definitely keeps a lot of ideas to himself and has a super secret canyon to conduct his research in called Google X. Chances are if any of these are true, they will be carried out flawlessly in the near future. Stay tuned.

Streaming Video Rumors

For a long time now, another rumor that seems to be more fact than fiction was that Google planned to buy Hulu, as a way to stay on top when it comes to media viewing of rival Apple. Then just last week, with the decline of NetFlix, it was announced that Hulu was no longer for sale. Tech analysts however warn consumers to keep their eyes on the future. If Google was interested once, (which it’s still unclear if they were) chances are this Goliath isn’t going to remain satisfied for long.

Bing Blues

In other news, Google may have some competition to look forward to in 2012. Data from the spring of 2011, showed that Bing narrowed a margin of 3 to 1 – to just 2 to 1, and may give Google a run for the money in 2012. Industry analysts don’t believe that Bing will pose too much of a threat however, and as always – assume that Google has something up its sleeve to take care of this ‘problem,’ should it truly arise. However, if the trend continues the way it has for the past 18 months and Google continues to lose 5% of its market share each month (while Bing gains 3%); Google could inadvertently end up in a number 2 position.
