The 6 Coolest Weapons in Resistance
The Resistance series is not only famous for its fast and brutal action but also for many interesting weapons – both in concept and in action. Here is a list of the craziest weapon designs:
6. The Spider Grenade
As soon as this grenade explodes, it drains a large area with a napalm-like fire which consumes anything in its surroundings. The only drawback is its short span of effect. After a couple of seconds, it has burnt out. Spider grenades only appear in the campaign of Resistance 2 and are made out of a toxin harvested from the salivary glands of the towering Marauders (those Chimeran beasts that look like an ugly T-Rex experiment).
5. The Mutator
This biological weapon will be featured in the upcoming Resistance 3. Its primary fire shoots a biological agent that will cause ugly cysts on enemies’ skin – and furthermore, they will become living landmines (although the living part will change soon enough). The secondary fire shoots a spray that disorients hapless enemies – once upgraded, Chimera forces will even attack each other!
4. The Hedgehog Grenade
This beastly grenade is the standard Chimeran one in all Resistance games and it surely is as vicious as those aliens: After being thrown, it keeps floating in the air and many sharp needles are being pushed out. Then it finally explodes, thus showering the immediate environment with dozens of sharp needles. You surely don’t want to stand in the way of such an explosion … In Resistance 3, the Hedgehog Grenade can also be used as a mine trap device. It stays on the ground until an unsuspecting victim comes to close it – only to die a painful spikey death.
3. The Splitter
The Splitter only appeared in the first Resistance game, only in singleplayer and only during the second playthrough … maybe it was deemed too strong?
This powerful and destructive Chimeran weapon can change the tide on every battlefield! The primary fire is basically “just” a powerful, highly advanced and devastating grenade but the secondary fire can split one grenade up into 16 individual explosive devices. But here’s the catch: A single shot of this true weapon of mass destruction is as powerful as each of the 16 split shots. To maximise its effect and level a huge area, it should always be split as many times as possible. The Splitter can easily take out groups of weaker Chimera – and if the timing is right, it can be used to bring down an Angel!
2. The V7 Splicer
Introduced in Resistance 2, this handy and versatile weapon is surely a masterpiece of destructiveness! Its primary fire shoots electromagnetic saw blades that will cut through flesh and bones easily. While the primary fire is evil, the secondary fire is outright Satanic: A heated blade is fired that will keep spinning inside the enemy, thus dealing more damage and pain over time. Even more, if the secondary fire button is held, the Splicer can be used as a melee weapon. It feels like a chainsaw and does the very same thing – cutting enemies into pieces in style!
1. The Atomizer
This Chimeran weapon, introduced in Resistance 3, could become a new favourite toy of destruction: The primary fire shoots electrical beams which disintegrate everything and everyone in its way within seconds. Its secondary fire is an electrical sphere which will act as a miniature black hole, sucking up close enemies while quickly spinning them and mutilating them. Who wouldn’t want to use one of those babies?
