Chiropractic Health Care
Like your regular doctor, your chiropractor may be able to offer treatment for a number of health care needs that you may have. Some chiropractic services may be covered by your health insurance, so it need not be expensive. Many people are unaware of the range of chiropractic treatments available; read on for details.
What Chiropractors Do
What do you think about when you envision a chiropractor? If you’re like most people, you imagine laying down face-first on the most expensive chair you’ve ever seen, as the chiropractor presses into your back. You hear and feel a “pop,” and then later stand up and (hopefully!) realise that your back pain feels much better. You then leave the chiropractor, having paid perhaps around $40 (give or take) out of your own pocket.
For some, that’s all there is to it – a straightforward chiropractic adjustment paid for by the patient – and this may represent good value for money if the treatments are effective for you. But your chiropractor can do more than just “crack your back”. If you visit the website of a chiropractic practitioner, you’ll usually find a long list of available services.
Some of the services names might lead you to an encyclopedia to find out what they are: intersegmental traction, reiki, and paraffin wax treatments, for example, may not be familiar to every reader. The list may include chirporactic treatments that could help with a health issue, such as massage therapy for a chronic condition, or ergonomic and postural consulting for desk workers [are you sitting correctly in your chair as you read this?].
You might be surprised to learn of the number of different treatments that may be appropriate for your health condition, or to help prevent some health problems arising. You don’t have to be involved in heavy lifting or suffering from a sports injury to reap the benefits of some of these treatments.
Other Health Treatments Avaliable
There are a couple of other areas of complementary and alternative health care that chiropractors may aslo provide. Many chiropractors are also able to offer acupuncture, which has been reported to help with a number of health conditions. People suffering from chronic migraine, joint pain or back pain, for example, might consider this form of traditional chinese medicine.
Your chiropractor may also provide services related to nutritional health, such as diet, allergy and other nutrition consultations. They may offer a variety of other complementary health services not mentioned here – if there’s a specific treatment that interests you, call a few chiropractors (or visit them online) to find out who offers what. It’s sensible to compare private health insurance cover for different chiropractors, too – some may be included in your cover, while others are out of your health insurer’s network of participating providers.
