Jose Reyes Accepts Six Year, $102M Deal With Miami Marlins

Jose Reyes is about to become a very rich man. If he passes a physical, and many people believe he will, Jose will become the new shortstop for the Miami Marlins. The Marlins agreed to terms with Reyes over a six year, $102 million dollar deal to come play for them, and it’s the largest contract the organization has ever given out. Reyes, the National League batting champ last season with a .337 average with the Mets, agreed to come play for Marlins after they raised their offer to a price he couldn’t refuse. The Marlins have been after Reyes since free agency opened one minute after midnight on November 3rd.

The Mets did try to hang on to their shortstop, offering him a five year deal worth $75 to $80 million. The report of this new deal comes only a day before the start of winter meetings, where the Marlins are expected to announce the singing of closer Heath Bell to a three-year, $27 million contract. With Reyes coming to play shortstop in Miami, the Marlins current shortstop, Hanley Ramirez, will have to move over to third base.
