Occupy D.C. Protesters Arrested After Standoff With Police
The largely peaceful Occupy D.C. encampment turned confrontational when protestors decided to build a fifteen foot shed in the middle of McPherson Square encampment without a permit. Police repeatedly asked the protesters to take down the shed, but they defied the orders and stayed in the shed. U.S. park police were forced to move in and start mass arrests, which turned the peaceful downtown square into a tense standoff with police that resembled many of the other standoffs OWS has had with police. 31 protesters were arrested for not following orders, and arrested 15 more for crossing a police line. Six crazy protesters had clung to the roof of the shed but were able to be removed using a cherry picker and were also arrested.
