Albert Pujols Has To Decide Between Offers From Cardinals, Marlins, and Cubs
Albert Pujols, the hottest free-agent first baseman, is in the middle of one of the biggest and most lucrative bidding wars in the history of Baseball. The power hitter has gotten three 10-year contract proposals Tuesday that would pay him in excess of $200 million. Pujols has offers on the table from the St. Louis Cardinals, Miami Marlins and Chicago Cubs, with one more team yet to be identified. Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak did confirm that his club increased its offer to Pujols late Tuesday, his first offer in nine months.
The offer from St.Louis came after the Miami Marlins offered Pujols a revised 10-year proposal worth more than $200 million. The Chicago Cubs have made an offer as well, but it’s not a ten year deal. Asked if he expects Pujols to make a decision soon, Cardinals gm Mozeliak said “I suspect it will come quickly, but I can’t say that with any confidence. … There has been no hard deadline set, but I do get the sense they’re going to move this thing forward, sooner than later.” Many people believe that Albert Pujols will remain a Cardinal. He has spent his entire 10-year career in St. Louis where he has achieved iconic status, winning three MVP awards while leading the Cardinals to two World Series championships.
