C.J. Wilson Leaning Towards The Angels
C.J. Wilson is reported to be leaning towards signing with the Los Angeles Angels, with a decision coming as early as Thursday morning. The Marlins are all in on landing Wilson after losing out free-agent first baseman Albert Pujols, even after acquiring left-hander Mark Buehrle. MLB Network reported Wednesday that the Marlins had offered Wilson a generous six-year deal, with other reports saying the Angels were offering a five-year pact. Wilson spent his childhood in Southern California and the allure of pitching at home is strong. The Texas Rangers also made Wilson an offer, but are considered to be long shots to land him.
At the winter meetings, Texas general manager Jon Daniels told reporters “Until C.J. makes a decision, we can’t rule anything out, but we understand that Wilson leaving is a realistic possibility. I haven’t received a call to say he’s chosen to go elsewhere, but we’re prepared for that call.” Wilson, 31, went 16-7 with a 2.94 ERA this past season for the Rangers after going 15-8 with a 3.35 ERA in 2010, his first season as a starter after transitioning from a relief role.
