12 Cool Facts About Mitt Romney

Willard Mitt Romney, a well known American businessman and an outstanding politician, was born on March 12, 1947. He was elected as the 70th Governor of Massachusetts and now has been nominated as a potential candidate for Presidency 2012. His father George W. Romney was the President of the American Motors Corporation and was also the Governor of Michigan from 1963 to 1969. His mother’s name was Lenore who ran for the US senate in the year 1970. Mitt Romney was brought up in Bloomfield Hills in Michigan and completed his under graduation from Brigham Young University. Along with attending Harvard Law School, he also managed to complete his MBA degree at Harvard Business School.

After that he started working for Bain & Company and later on became the co-founder of Bain Capital which was one of the largest firms in US. He was then chosen as the President of the Salt Lake City Olympics and in 2002 Romney was elected as the Governor of Massachusetts and stayed at the position till 2007. He didn’t go for reelection in 2006 but instead ran for Republic Presidency Nominations in 2008 but unfortunately lost it to John Mc Cain. But now once again on June 2, 2011, Mitt Romney is again in limelight with his announcement of running as a candidate in Republican Presidential Nominations of 2012.

This is all that most of us know about Mitt Romney but there is much more to know about Romney’s life that would provide all of you an insight about this great leader of today and tomorrow.

1. Mitt Romney married to Ann Davies in 1969 but they both met for the first time in elementary school. Mitt was only 18 that time and Ann was 15.

2. Romney left his school in 1966 and served a mission for LDS Church in France for 2 years.

3. Romney was once arrested in 1965 in accuse of sliding down the slopes of a golf course on huge ice blocks.

4. In 1968, Romney with his five fellow passengers was seriously hit by a drunken truck driver. One of the passengers died at the spot and a French policeman thought that Mitt was dead and wrote “il esot mort” (dead) on his passport. But later on Sargent Shriver, his father’s friend found him alive at the hospital.

5. Mitt and Ann are enjoying42 years of a happy married life with their 5 sons, 5 daughter- in-laws and 16 grandchildren.

6. Mitt fully enjoys the company of his grandchildren and loves reading books, skiing, horse riding, water skiing and watching movies with his wife.

7. Mitt maintains a healthy diet but at the same time he is also very fond of eating. His favored specialties are Ann’s homemade Granola, Hires Burger, chicken bowl, hot dogs, meatloaf cake and fish.

8. Mitt got his first name William from his father’s friend named J. William Marriott. His middle name Mitt was the nickname of his father’s cousin, Milton who was a football player for the Chicago Bears.

9. While living in Belmont, Romney was a leader in the Mormon Church. He was also the bishop of Cambridge congregation and of Belmont.

10. Romney’s asset is considered between $190 and $260 million and he would be the wealthiest President of the country ever elected. Currently Obama’s net worth is between $2.8 and $11 million.

11. Mitt’s first ever job was of a chauffeur for a university physics department.

12. In 1996 Romney’s partner daughter disappeared in NYC and Mitt closed his entire Bain Capital and ordered his all employees to search for the little girl.
