Jungle Surfing Australia
It’s well known that Australia is one of the surfing capitals of the world, but did you know that it is also one of the jungle surfing capitals of the world? There’s nothing Australian’s like better than an adrenaline rush, so it’s only natural that wherever they can find a place for zip lines (or flying foxes, as we call them in Oz), they’ll make one – or more. Here are some of the best zip lines in Australia:
Cape Tribulation, Northern Queensland
Cape Tribulation, in North Queensland, is about as awesome a place as you’ll find anywhere in the world. The rainforests here are so dense, they are virtually impenetrable. That won’t be a problem, though, since you’ll be soaring above the treetops on not one, but five interconnected flying fox ziplines. At each stage of your flight, you’ll be able to catch your breath on a tree platform and then have it taken away again as you take in the incredible scenery. Jungle Surfing Canopy Tours is open 7 days a week and conducts 8 tours daily, so whenever you happen to be in the area, you can have this incredible experience. You can reach Cape Tribulation from your Cairns accommodation. Getting there will be half the fun, since the 2 and a half hour journey includes a ferry crossing.

Launceston, Tasmania
If you love the outdoors and have never been to Tasmania, go there – now. The best way to see the amazing unspoiled island state is, of course, on a zip line. Launceston is Tasmania’s second largest city and just happens to be so surrounded by stunning natural scenery, it takes only about a quarter of an hour to get from downtown Launceston to Hollybank Treetops Adventure, a 3 hour guided tour that takes you across a series of flying foxes ranging from 15 meters to up to 400 meters in length. As much an educational tour as a thrill ride, your guides will point out all the things you might have missed on your own.

Gold Coast, Southern Queensland
If you happen to be on the Gold Coast, southern Queensland’s and Australia’s most popular vacation getaway, you have two great jungle surfing adventures to look forward to. Both of them are run by Adventure Parc, a company that began in France over a decade ago and has since spread worldwide. If your Gold Coast accommodation is anywhere between Coolangatta and Surfers Paradise, head first for the amazing Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. An oasis of natural beauty right in the middle of the Gold Coast, the “Green Challenge” takes you on a thrill ride through the trees on a zip line and throws some other “commando” style adventures into the mix as well. The original Australian Adventure Parc is up at Mt. Tamborine in the Gold Coast hinterland. This is well worth going a little out of your way to visit and includes 11 flying foxes (zip lines) and much more. The entire adventure course takes about 3 1/2 hours to complete and includes all the gear you need to come out of it alive and well.
Cape Otway, Victoria
Cape Otway, on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, is one of Australia’s most beautiful parks. In order to preserve its natural beauty and protect its wildlife, elevated treetop walks and zip lines have been erected for visitors to enjoy. While taking a treetop walk is recommended, the 2 1/2 hour zip line tour is a must- have experience. Rated as a “medium adrenaline activity” by its operators, this may be putting it mildly. In all, you will take 6 zip lines to 8 “cloud stations” and cross two high suspension bridges. At times, you will fly over 100 feet above the forest floor, so if you have a serious case of vertigo, think twice before taking the Otway Fly Treetop Adventure.
