Was 2011 a Hit or Miss in the World of Fashion?

What do you think about the year of 2011 in terms of fashion trends? Was it a good year? Was it a dud? A lot of interesting fashion trends were out and about throughout the year. Are you someone who follows the trends or do you prefer to march to the beat of your own drum? Some trends of the year have already gone by the wayside and others are hanging on.  Some were memorable and some we’d like to forget.

Here are a few fashion observations and a look at some of the popular, memorable, and unusual trends and fashion moments of this past year:

• Sweatpants with writing across the bum – Many say that no one over the age of sixteen should be caught wearing these. Sadly, like Speedo wearing or socks with sandals wearing older men, many women don’t seem to have gotten that memo! A lot of people are looking forward to this being a thing of the past.

• Uggs – Some people love them and others truly hate the Uggs boots.  You’ll even find websites and t-shirts dedicated to hatred of them. Do you think they’re ugg-ly? Like with Croc shoes, some people care more about comfort than fashion. Gasp!

• Yoga Pants – Love them or hate them? Some women practically live in them from the gym, to the office, to the mall… to almost everything. Yoga pants to a cocktail party? Really?

• Pajama Jeans. Have you seen this infomercial for the jeans that promise to feel like pjs but look and fit like a great pair of denims? Newsflash! Jeans that are as comfortable as a pair of pajamas aren’t really jeans and they certainly aren’t fooling anyone!

• Speaking of pajamas…what about wearing pajama pants in public? Who said that was ok? A lot of us are looking for that to be a thing of the past.

• Jeans waistlines seem to be slowly moving up again, thankfully. Not as high as the 1980′s Mom jeans but at least there now seem to be slightly fewer muffin top and thong sightings!

• Stockings and tights. Stockings and tights don’t seem to ever go out of style but the trends do change.  There are some great new tights trends, such as wearing tights that make it look like your leg is tattooed. Legwarmers and slouchy socks also seem to be making a comeback.

• Scarves. Scarves in fancy knots are a popular trend. It just goes to show that if you have a favourite piece that seems to go out of fashion, hang onto it for a while — it usually makes some sort of comeback eventually.

• Audacious hats. The Royal Wedding seems to have really spurred a renewed hat trend. Will you be wearing a hat with a bowl of fruit or birdcage on top in the near future? Some trends seem more for the runway and the red carpet than the average gal wanting to look her best at the supermarket.

So, what do you think? Was 2011 a good year for fashion? Is there anything you’ll miss or something you wish never reared its gaudy head in the first place?
