2012 New Hampshire Primary Results
With all the votes tallied up from the New Hampshire primary, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has established himself as the front runner in the race to face current president Barack Obama in November. But before Romney can pat himself on the back, he still has the state of South Carolina to win on Saturday, January 21st. Romney won the New Hampshire Primary with 39% of the vote while Texas Representative Ron Paul finished second with 23%.
Former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman had a respectable showing with 17%, while former front runner Newt Gingrich fell to almost dead last. This primary season is different from past primaries because the Republicans have changed most of the early primary rules so that they no longer have a “winner-take-all” in the early primaries. Mitt Romney would get the Republican nomination if the primaries allowed the winner to take all of the delegates from every state and they used the old system.
For now Romney is enjoying his win and is hoping to take this momentum into South Carolina on the 21st of this month. Ron Paul has a strong following that has allowed him to post a 3rd place finish in Iowa and a 2nd place finish in New Hampshire, so he is definitely one to watch in the coming weeks.
