New York Yankees Trade Jesus Montero For Michael Pineda
The MLB is a few weeks into it’s off-season, and Yankees general manager Brian Cashman is showing us why he gets paid top dollar. Cashman went to work rebuilding the Yankees pitching rotation by trading catcher Jesus Montero and Hector Noesi to the Seattle Mariners for Michael Pineda and 19 year old pitcher Jose Campos. Michael Pineda started the 2011 Baseball season pitching like an ace before his performance trailed off in the second half of the season. Pineda finished the 2011 season with 173 strikeouts, an opponents .211 batting average and a 3.74 ERA in 171 innings.
Cashman didn’t stop there. He flashed some Yankee muscle by signing 37 year old free-agent righty Hiroki Kuroda to a one year, $10 million dollar deal. Kuroda has a 3.45 ERA in 699 career innings, and has spent his whole career thus far with the Los Angeles Dodgers. With CC Sabathia, Pineda and Kuroda in the rotation, the Yankees now have a powerful front rotation that’s going to cause a lot of problems in this upcoming season.
