Insure it—at a Price!

What makes a vehicle so expensive to insure? Is it the size? Do brighter-colored cars cause fewer accidents? What about the age of the people who drive a particular car? These factors and more contribute to the insurance costs that drivers pay when they choose to drive certain vehicles. Although gas prices are usually more of a headache than insurance costs, it never hurts to save as much money as you can. If you would like to save some money on insurance, you should think twice about buying any of the following five vehicles.

Subaru Impreza

1. The most expensive car to insure over the past several years has been the Subaru Impreza. On the surface, there is really not an obvious reason why this car costs so much to insure, but then you have to take demographics into consideration. 35 percent of crashes involving the Subaru Impreza involved drivers under the age of 25, and it is well-known that drivers that agree often lack sound judgment. For that reason, the Subaru Impreza remains one of the costliest cars to keep on the road.

2005 Scion tC

2. The Scion tC is another very expensive car to have insurance for. Continuing a common theme that will encompass this article, the Scion tC has a lot of drivers under the age of 25. It’s a small, sporty car that younger drivers love to zip around in. They think it can allow them to weave in and out of traffic with ease and without the danger of being in a wreck. Drivers of Scion tC vehicles tend to underestimate the amount of space they need to make a pass on a freeway. That’s why there are so many accidents with it, and that’s why the insurance costs so much.

Hyundai Tiburon

3. Coming in at number three is the Hyundai Tiburon. This is a very inexpensive car which makes it ideal for high school and college-aged drivers to buy. With so many youth behind the wheel of Hyundai Tiburon’s, it’s easy to see why there are a ton of accidents involving them.

Mercedes-Benz CLS 350 BlueEFFICIENCY Edition 1 (C 218) – Frontansicht (1), 16. April 2011, Düsseldorf

4. The next vehicle to avoid if you want low insurance is the Mercedes CLS class. These are small, quick cars that cause people to forget their safe driving habits. They are also great-looking cars that attract many young drivers, who have poorer judgment to begin with. The Mercedes CLS is not the car for you if you want to save money on car insurance.

North American market Suzuki Forenza (or Chevy Lacetti for you Top Gear UK fans...)

5. The Suzuki Forenza is yet another vehicle that you’ll probably want to avoid unless you want to pay extra for insurance. It has been estimated that no other vehicle has been in more wrecks than Suzuki Forenzas since they were introduced in 2004. Young people love these cars and they love to drive them dangerously. That causes the insurance to go up for everyone who drives them.
