2012 Pro Bowl: AFC Sets Record In 59-41Win Over NFC
Although many football players treat the Pro Bowl game as a chance to relax and enjoy some time in the sun, they still went out and played hard regardless. After an amazing air show, the AFC team came out victorious in a 59-41 win over their NFC counterparts. The AFC’s 59 points set a Pro Bowl record for points by a single team, and tied up the series in the NFL’s all-star game. The combined 100 points the teams scored was also the second highest ever scored in a Pro Bowl game, just one touchdown shy of the 107 points scored in the 2004 Pro Bowl.
Brandon Marshall was named MVP with six catches for 176 yards, and a record 4 touchdowns. Every quarterback selected to the game — Aaron Rodgers, Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees, Philip Rivers, Cam Newton, and Andy Dalton — threw for 100 or more yards and two touchdowns.
Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers had a horrible game though, going 9 of 27 for 186 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. Eric Weddle picked off Newton twice. Dalton, meanwhile, was 7 of 9 for 99 yards and two TDs. Asked about his performance Newton said “”When you hang the ball up there, against these kind of players, that’s what you get. It’s the good and the bad of playing in a Pro Bowl. I learned a lot.”
