Graffiti Artist David Choe Set To Become A Multi-Millionaire After Facebook IPO
David Choe is set to become the richest artist alive, and it’s all thanks to a smart decision he made a few years ago. Seven years ago, Choe painted murals on the walls of Facebook’s first offices in Palo Alto, California, and instead of cash money, he agreed to accept 3.77 million shares of Facebook stock instead. Now that Facebook is getting ready to float it’s stock, his shares could be worth around 200 million dollars or more.
The Korean-American artist, 35, was first asked by Facebook’s former president Sean Parker to paint erotic murals for Facebook’s first office in Palo Alto, California. Mark Zuckerberg later came in and asked him to paint more “tamer” art for Facebook’s second office in 2007. As comparison you will probably want to know the price of some of the most expensive paintings sold lately. There’s Jackson Pollock, whose painting was priced at $140 million in 2006, this is the most expensive painting available right now. There are also A De Kooning, who got $137.5 million in the same year, and Klimt who obtained $135 million with his work. Yet David Choe’s $200 million will beat all those artists including Van Gogh, Renoir, Picasso and Warhol, who were all known as rich artists.
