Super Bowl 2012: Would You Consider Eli Manning An Elite Quarterback After Beating Patriots For A Second Time?
Eli Manning is now a 2 time Superbowl champion as well as a two time Superbowl MVP, beating older brother Peyton in both categories. In both Superbowl wins, Manning lead the Giants on a long drive filled with spectacular plays and amazing catches, before scoring the game winning touchdown with less than a minute remaining.
With the amazing year that Eli had, one can’t help but wonder: Is Eli the best quarterback in the NFL league right now? Before you go down and vote, think about this first.
Out of all the active quarterbacks in the NFL right now, only New England’s Tom Brady has more Super Bowl rings (three), but he has yet to beat Manning and the Giants in the Super Bowl, and is 1-3 overall, including a 24-20 loss back in November. This year, Brady threw for 5,235 yards (second-best all-time), 39 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Manning had his best year with 4,933 yards, 29 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.
Ben Roethlisberger has also been in the league the same number of years as Manning (eight) and the two players have two championships each, although the Steelers quarterback has made one more Super Bowl appearance. Their career statistics are similar as well. Manning has thrown for 27,579 yards with 185 touchdowns and 129 interceptions, Roethlisberger 26,579 yards with 165 touchdowns and 100 interceptions.
So would you still consider Eli Manning an elite Quarterback? Leave us a comment and tell us what you think?
