Understanding the recent USA Powerball changes

Some lotto fans may be unsure how the new and improved Powerball works.

There has been a great deal of hype lately about the changes that gave the USA Powerball a facelift last month, but it is understandable that after the news of the revamp, some lotto fans have been left confused as to how their favourite draw now works.

The USA Powerball initiated its new look on January 15th and fans may be pleased to learn that the alterations made to the lotto now means more prizes and bigger jackpots – all resulting in an even more thrilling lottery experience.

Massive payouts

Naturally, the size of a jackpot is one of the main factors that motivates lottery players and the new Powerball system promises that all top prizes will start at $40 million and grow from there.

Indeed, with every rollover, this jumbo cash payout will be inflated by a further $10 million, which could see more jackpots hit nine figures and break records.

The second-tier prize is also being boosted, with this sum growing to $1 million from $200,000 – which means if a player gets all five numbers correct with a Power Play, they will get to take home $2 million.

Lower level prizes are also being boosted, but the increased chance of a lottery entry making that ticketholder a millionaire is reason enough to get involved.

Improved odds

Some lottery fans may think that to accompany all this great prize news, it means the odds of winning will slim down.

This could not be further from the truth, because the Powerball matrix for the additional number is actually decreasing from 1-39 to 1-35, while the main number range will remain the same at 1-59.

Playing Powerball online

With these changes and improved prizes comes a new ticket price and fans of playing online lottery should review this themselves.

There is plenty of time to get involved in the USA Powerball for tomorrow’s (February 8th) draw.

Since the revamp transformed the game last month, the jackpot has been on a sky-bound trajectory and is now worth an incredible $250 million – which could see it smash records if it continues to increase.
