Just a few days ago Jeremy Lin was another player sitting at the end of the bench hoping to get his shot, today he is the centerpiece of a New York Knicks team that’s surging because of his impressive play. Lin finished the night with 23 points and a career high 10 assists in a dominate win against the Washington Wizards. The reign of Jeremy Lin almost didn’t happen though. Lin has been passed over in the NBA draft, cut by two teams in the same preseason and sent to the D-League.
But Lin silenced all critics when he scored a career high 28 points and eight assists in his very first start in the NBA. But the thing is Lin was always a great player, going back to his days playing college ball in Harvard. Lin is the first player in Ivy League history to record at least 1,450 points (1,483), 450 rebounds (494), 400 assists (406) and 200 steals (225).
Knicks head coach Mike D’Antoni admitted that he was initially scared to play Lin, saying “ there were other things I questioned just because I didn’t know. And I was afraid to do anything. We’re already in a little bit of a crisis and I just couldn’t be, you know, pulling straws.” I bet the coach wishes he started him sooner.
