If you’re an adrenaline junky, chances are that you don’t want to work behind a desk for the rest of your life. You may be fantastic with numbers but, let’s face it, a career as an accountant certainly won’t fulfill your need for excitement. Luckily, if you play your cards right, you can land an exciting job with vast opportunities for adventure. Here are the top five jobs for adrenaline junkies:
1. Astronaut
Do your friends frequently tell you that your head is in the clouds? Why not prove them right? As an astronaut, you’ll have room in your life for nothing but excitement! Astronauts do far more than fly to the moon. As an astronaut, you may pilot shuttle missions, work on orbiters or even man the space station. If you have an interest in space, pursue a degree in engineering with an aeronautical focus. The highest paid astronauts make over $100,000 a year; ground control to Major Tom!
2. Law Enforcement
Whether you work for your city’s police department, the county sheriff, the state police or even the federal government, a career as a law enforcement officer provides more than ample opportunity for an adrenaline rush. To be a law enforcement officer, you must have a desire to both uphold the law and to help the community at large. The job offers plenty of opportunity for exciting chases, entrance into dangerous neighborhoods and challenging situations. Consider pursuing a degree in criminal justice prior to applying for a position with any department; you’ll have a better chance of moving through the ranks.
3. CEO
Chief Executive Officers may not fuel their need for adrenaline with physical activity but what can make you feel more powerful than having control over millions of dollars and hundreds of people? Never mind that, as a CEO, you can expect to take home over $140,000 a year, but you’ll find that the job comes with an array of fabulous perks: travel, stock options, memberships to exclusive clubs and the heady rush of power. A degree in business will take you far, but an MBA will take you to the top.
4. President
Yes, by President, we mean President of the United States of America. Perhaps the best known person in the world, the President of the United States wields a disgustingly attractive amount of power. What on earth could provide a bigger adrenaline rush than being in charge of an entire nation of people? With the power to declare war, sign laws into effect and contribute, thoughtfully, to causes that matter, being the President should be an attractive idea to anyone who has the need for a constant rush. A law degree or an MBA will serve you well in your quest to becoming the ultimate leader.
5. Secret Service
Where else can you work that makes you look so cool? From protecting the President to working to ensure the security of the nation, a member of the Secret Service has a never-ending supply of thrills. Many people are unaware that, as a member of the Service, you can work in a variety of positions. From working with and protecting diplomats to immersing yourself in other cultures, a Secret Service agent does far more than jog leisurely along with the Presidential motorcade. A background in criminal justice ensures that you have what it takes to become one of the coolest law enforcement officers on the planet.
