Take a Big Bite Out Of the Big Apple

They say that there is a psychological condition known as a New York State of mind. There is no real clinical description for it, and no one can really describe exactly what it means. But if you spend some time in the United States’ most populous city, you will begin to feel that you understand a little about what they’re talking about. This is a city that was built by immigrants, using the sweat of their brows to create buildings that reach for the sky. In the process, the inhabitants have developed an attitude that reflects the brash, loud and extremely diverse nature of the city. There aren’t very many shy and retiring wallflowers here. One can find everything from captains of industry, to Wall Street magnates, and even famous stage and movie actors. They all decided to live and work here because of the high energy that pulses through the streets, the restaurants and bars that stay open almost all night long, and the tremendous range of cultural activities that are always available.

Gotham is calling

It’s only fitting that this city, one of the true world capitals, was founded by one of the famous trading nations. The Dutch arrived in the early 17th century, and legend has it that they bought the island of Manhattan and the surrounding area from the local Algonquian Indians for just $24 worth of trinkets and baubles. It was the beginning of the legend that is New York City, and its real estate market has experienced many larger-than-life personalities; until recently it was home to some of the tallest skyscrapers in the world. You too can experience the excitement by finding inexpensive flights to New York that will whisk you to this boisterous city in no time at all. Not sure what you will find here? Here’s just a few of the sights and sounds that you can take in:

  • Broadway, an area that has made careers, and seen directors, actors and screenwriters jump to instant stardom. The old parable goes that if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere. But for you, it means a wide variety of first run plays, as well as many great adventurous productions, that are generally referred to as off Broadway shows
  • Art for art’s sake! Both the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which has one of the greatest collections of modernist and Impressionist pieces to be found anywhere in the world, will vie for your attention with the Guggenheim Museum, with its classic spiral shape
  • Central Park, an oasis in the middle of a bustling, rushing town. Here you can happen upon an outdoor concert, as well as take leisurely strolls through many of the winding pathways
  • Take a carriage ride down Fifth Avenue. Experience some old world charm, while window shopping past some of the most avant-garde boutiques available anywhere

When you get hungry, you have literally the entire world at your beck and call, from quaint little restaurants in Little Italy to excellent fare in Chinatown. Wherever you go, you will find all sorts of characters, many different cultures, all mixed into one giant experience.
