Travel blogs and magazines are full of ‘best’ lists – the best things to do in Tenerife, the best hotels to stay at in Japan… but what about the things you really don’t want to do and the places you don’t want to see?
Never fear, I’m here to tell you about the worst hotels in the world so that you can cross these ones off your list and make sure your holiday is memorable for all the right reasons!
The below hotels have all been picked out as some of the worst in the world due to a huge number of terrible reviews on the TripAdvisor website. Read on to find out just what made holiday-makers think a 1-star rating was way too much for these hotels…
Cromwell Crown, London, UK
This place is ridiculously cheap for its central London location, but an overnight stay will prove you’re only getting what you pay for – or less. Some of the worst reviews include finding bodily fluids in the sink and underwear on the window ledge, not to mention a layer of grime and suspicious stains coating every surface of the rooms…
Hotel Carter, New York, USA
New York, the city that never sleeps… well, you certainly won’t be doing much sleeping in this rodent-infested hotel where if the rats don’t bite you, the insects certainly will!
One customer even complained of plugs “hanging out the walls with wires showing” so between the faulty electrical supplies and the blood-stained sheets, I don’t think I’d feel safe enough to sleep here, insects or no insects…
Catalonia Gardens, Salou, Spain
Ah, to be a tourist in Spain! Sipping sangría, enjoying the sunshine and… vomiting in the pool? Aside from the pool that many guests have said made them sick (it makes you wonder what chemicals are in there!) other guests have commented on burnt bathtubs, fleas in the bed and doors and windows with broken locks.
Centaur Hotel, New Delhi, India
Aside from one very recent 5* review in an English that sounds suspiciously like a hotel employee writing a fake review, this hotel has almost 100 reviews and not a single one above three stars. It’s no wonder really – would you enjoy sleeping on mouldy bed sheets crawling with mice and insects? Thought not! It’s not even cheap either…
Hotel Nizza, Rome, Italy
Here’s another one where you’re likely to find yourself sleeping in bed with a colony of ants or cockroaches! Some reviewers found the faded appearance nostalgic, but in the sweltering heat of mid-summer Italy you’re unlikely to find the broken air conditioning very ‘quaint’.
One unhappy customer even told of being asked to pay extra to swap rooms when the one he was given had a wet bed in it!
That’s it from me, but have you ever stayed a hotel you wish you’d never chosen? Tell me your hotel horror stories in the comments below!
