In the tablet war that has been raging on between tech giants Apple has been winning ever since it first introduced the iPad. But more companies are starting to catch up and putting out better alternatives to the iPad, like Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD. With a starting price tag of $329, Apple’s new iPad mini may be more expensive than budget-conscious consumers would like.
Not only is Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD $130 cheaper, it is also a little smaller than the 7.9-inch iPad mini and comes with a high-definition display, unlike the iPad mini’s display, which is standard definition. When asked how Kindle Fire sales were doing after Apple’s announcement, Amazon spokesperson Drew Herdener said “Wednesday was the $199 Kindle Fire HD’s biggest day of sales since launch and up 3x week over week.”
This could mean that Apple is losing a lot more customers than they would like to admit because of the price of their tablets. Keep in mind though, preorders for the white iPad mini were already this morning soon after they went on sale. It’s going to take a lot more to put a chink in Apple’s armor.
