Owning a waterfront property comes with its perks, especially if you love the open water and owning a boat. While it’s easy to focus on the joy of cruising or fishing, it’s important to think about how to protect your investment and make boating more convenient. One of the smartest additions you can make to your dock setup is a boat lift. Here are six reasons a boat lift is a must-have for your waterfront property.

Protection From Wear and Tear

Leaving your boat in the water full-time might seem harmless, but it exposes your boat to constant wear and tear. Waves, tides, and the occasional debris can take a toll on the hull, causing scratches and damage over time. A boat lift keeps your vessel safely out of the water, sparing it from unnecessary exposure and potential costly repairs. Raising your boat also means no surprises after a day of choppy conditions.

Prevents Marine Growth

Marine growth seems inevitable when a boat stays docked in water for long periods. Algae, barnacles, and other aquatic organisms can attach to the hull, slowing your boat down, reducing fuel efficiency, and even causing structural damage. Cleaning it off can feel like an uphill battle. By using a boat lift to store your boat above water, you can keep your hull pristine and reduce the hassle of constant scrubbing and cleaning.

Storm Surge Protection

Storms and rough weather can be nerve-wracking for boat owners. High winds and storm surges can cause boats to slam against docks or even break away, resulting in significant damage or loss. A boat lift adds an extra layer of protection during these unpredictable conditions. Keeping your boat secured above the water eliminates much of the risk that storms bring, leaving you with peace of mind.

Convenient Maintenance

Boat maintenance can feel like a necessary evil, but a boat lift cuts down on the hassle. Whether it’s painting the hull, replacing a propeller, or inspecting the underside, having your boat elevated makes all these tasks much easier. Instead of struggling to get under the boat or dealing with lifting equipment, you’ll be able to access everything quickly and safely, saving you time and frustration.

Extends Boat Lifespan

Boats are a significant investment, and taking care of them goes a long way in maximizing their lifespan. Protecting the hull from constant water exposure prevents corrosion and other damage, while limiting the impact of everyday wear keeps your boat in great condition for years to come. Any boat owner can appreciate the value of a vessel that performs well, even after years of adventures.

Enhances Property Value

Waterfront properties already have significant appeal, but adding a boat lift can elevate their market value. Buyers or renters with an eye for boating will notice that your setup takes convenience and protection into account. Choosing the right boat lift makes your life easier and also makes your property stand out in the market. It’s a win-win for your lifestyle and your long-term investment.

Waterfront living is all about enjoying life on the water, and a boat lift enhances that experience. From protecting your boat to saving time on maintenance and adding value to your property, the benefits are clear. If you’re ready to make life dockside even better, start exploring your options for choosing the right boat lift today. It’s an upgrade you won’t regret.

Arizona is home to an array of RV parks, particularly in cities like Yuma and Tucson, where you’ll find affordable rates and sunny skies almost every day of the year. Plus, its dry climate is perfect for RVers who prefer minimal rain and humidity. However, Arizona heat is no joke.
What sets South Dakota apart is its simplicity in establishing residency. The state requires minimal effort to register your RV, vote, or set up a home base. With no state income tax and low vehicle registration fees, South Dakota has become a prime pick for long-term RVers.

Oregon

For RVers who prefer cooler climates and lush, green landscapes, Oregon is a dream destination. The state offers incredible natural beauty, from its famous coastline to the towering forests of the Cascades. RV living is especially popular in cities like Bend and along major scenic byways.

Families gather around the New Year tree, exchange gifts, and enjoy festive meals. The celebration continues into the night with fireworks and traditional folk performances.

Denmark: Smashing Plates for Good Luck

In Denmark, New Year’s Eve is marked by the amusing tradition of smashing dishes on the doorsteps of friends and family. The more broken pieces, the better, as it symbolizes the abundance of loyal friends. Additionally, climbing onto chairs and jumping off at midnight is believed to ward off evil spirits and bring good luck in the coming year.

Greece: The Feast of Saint Basil and Pomegranate Smashing

In Greece, New Year’s Day coincides with the celebration of Saint Basil’s Day. Families cut the Vasilopita, a sweet bread containing a hidden coin. The person who finds the coin is said to have good luck for the year. Moreover, at the stroke of midnight, it’s customary to throw a pomegranate against the door to release its seeds, symbolizing prosperity and good fortune.

Philippines: Round Shapes for Prosperity

In the Philippines, the New Year is welcomed with a superstition-rich celebration. Round shapes, symbolizing coins and prosperity, play a significant role. Families display 13 of anything that is round, such as 13 round fruits, 13 coins, 13 round objects, and so on. The number 13 is believed to be a lucky number, hence they call it “Lucky 13”. Families also gather for a festive midnight feast. Fireworks light up the sky, and making loud noises is believed to drive away evil spirits.

Ecuador: Burning Effigies for Cleansing

In Ecuador, New Year’s Eve is marked by a unique tradition known as “Año Viejo” (Old Year). Life-sized effigies, representing the past year, are crafted and filled with firecrackers. At midnight, these effigies are set ablaze in streets across the country, symbolizing the cleansing of the old year’s troubles and making way for a fresh start in the new year.

India: Diwali-Like Celebrations and Cultural Diversity

While India traditionally celebrates the New Year in accordance with its lunar calendar, the Western concept of New Year’s Eve has gained popularity in urban areas. Cities like Mumbai and Delhi embrace the festivities with grand parties, fireworks, and concerts, showcasing the country’s cultural diversity and its ability to seamlessly blend global traditions with local customs.

Global New Year traditions reflect the beauty of cultural diversity and the creativity with which societies welcome the promise of a new beginning. As we marvel at the various customs practiced around the world, it becomes clear that the universal desire for hope, prosperity, and joy unites us all. Each tradition is a thread contributing to the rich fabric of our shared human experience. May the coming year be an abundance of shared traditions and new beginnings for people around the world.

Winter transforms the San Juan National Forest into a magical wonderland filled with sparkling snow and crisp mountain air. The pristine terrain offers a playground for adventurers seeking exhilarating and unique winter experiences. As you indulge in backcountry snow sports, remember to embrace the thrill but always prioritize safety. Discover winter sports to enjoy in the San Juan National Forest and get inspired to embark on your own excursion.

Backcountry Skiing and Snowboarding: Thrills on the Slopes

Backcountry skiing and snowboarding provide a unique opportunity to challenge your skills and commune with nature in the heart of the San Juan National Forest. Far from the groomed slopes and crowds of resort skiing, you get to create your own path in immaculate scenery.

Before you embark on this adventure, familiarize yourself with local weather and avalanche conditions by consulting the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC). Additionally, always venture into the backcountry with a buddy or a group, and ensure everyone carries avalanche safety gear, such as an avalanche beacon, shovel, and probe.

Snowmobiling: Exploring the Vast Expanse

For an adrenaline-pumping winter sport you can enjoy, explore the San Juan National Forest on a snowmobile. Snowmobiles grant unparalleled freedom to cover vast distances and access remote locations that might be unreachable on foot or with skis.

Familiarize yourself with the rules and regulations of the area where you plan to snowmobile, as some sections of the San Juan National Forest have specific restrictions or designated trails. Helmets and appropriate clothing are crucial for minimizing the risk of hypothermia or frostbite. Lastly, always share your travel plans with someone not on the trip to ensure help will come your way if you need it.

Pro Tip: Travel on the Million Dollar Highway

If you want to experience more of the beauty of the San Juan Mountain range—and if the weather permits—consider traveling on the Million Dollar Highway. One of the interesting facts about the Million Dollar Highway is that it was originally built to connect the major mining towns of Silverton, Ironton, and Ouray. Now, it provides access to historical landmarks and other attractions throughout the mountains. Consider stopping at viewpoints along the way to soak in the panoramic views and capture stunning photographs.

Cross-Country Skiing and Snowshoeing: A Peaceful Journey

If the allure of a more serene, meditative experience in the snow calls to you, consider cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. With miles of trails winding through the wilderness, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing provide plenty of opportunities to spot local wildlife and savor the quiet, snow-covered world around you.

Invest in proper attire, ensuring you have enough layers to stay warm and dry, and always carry essential gear, such as maps, a compass, water, and snacks. Having a basic knowledge of first aid and a few survival skills might also come in handy.

The San Juan National Forest is a winter haven offering the opportunity to participate in an array of sports that cater to different tastes and skill levels. From the heart-pounding thrills of backcountry skiing and snowmobiling to the peaceful journey of cross-country skiing or snowshoeing, there’s something for everyone. Always remember to prioritize safety to fully enjoy the mesmerizing beauty of the snow-covered wilderness.

There are many reasons to get out and explore the beautiful world around you. New adventures mean seeking out interesting places and sometimes going on a journey of self-discovery. And a great way to go about this is with a road trip. The reasons to go on a cross-country road trip range from the unbeatable travel price to easy exploring!

Video Overview

You’ll Explore the Country

On a road trip, driving becomes part of the experience in a way that’s impossible to match when you travel by airplane. As you drive, you can really appreciate the world around you, whether you’re making a trip to the mountains or coast. Each new landscape adds to the adventure!

And you can make pit stops along the way when you see interesting sites or need a bite to eat. Better yet, at restaurants, you get the chance to interact with locals and learn more about the culture. Just by trying the food that the state’s known for, you expand your palate. And every region is different. You may just be passing through a state, but when you’re driving, you can explore along the way!

It’s Affordable

The price point is another reason to go on a cross-country road trip because it’s so inexpensive. You don’t necessarily have to worry about hefty hotel prices since you can sleep in the RV or at campsites. If you are traveling by RV, make sure you have a good understanding of RV plumbing to prevent mishaps along the way.

You’re Not on a Schedule

Other forms of travel come with a schedule. When you want to take a cross-country trip, a strict schedule is anything but ideal because it means cutting out desirable activities to make time for other things. But when you’re in charge of the itinerary, you can do as much as you want without time constraints.

Road trips also help you learn to go with the flow—an important life lesson. Natural hurdles like rainstorms, flat tires, and road closures will come up during your travels. When this happens, you have no choice but to roll with it.

Time to Yourself

Driving on a long stretch of road can feel peaceful. And once you get off the road, you can unplug and practice mindfulness. When you’re alone with your thoughts, you can reflect rather than think about a fast-paced life or social media. So when you’re on your road trip, take time to put your phone away and capture a few moments with your mind’s eye!

Tuscany: Tapestry of Ancient Beauty and Historic Charm

Italy is gorgeous in and of itself, however, there exists a magical area within called, Tuscany. Many cities exist here that are magnificent, however, only three are listed here that you absolutely do not want to miss! Apart from amazing weather, Tuscany is known for its rolling hills and the villages nestled within them, gorgeous castles and stone homes, renaissance-era art, and delicious, decadent wineries that you cannot find anywhere else on earth! Thinking about planning a trip to Tuscany now?

Video Overview

All the best towns in Tuscany are only a short, delightful drive from one another, so it’s easy to maneuver between them. In this post, we will discuss this intriguing place, and what makes the following cities shine above all others.

FLORENCE

As well as being the capital of Italy, many famous 14th and 15th-century paintings make their home here, such as The Florentine Pieta by Michelangelo, The Annunciation by Fra Angelico, and the Gates of Paradise by Lorenzo Ghiberti just to name a few of the myriads to be found! After indulging your eyes on the vast array of artwork, you can visit the breath-taking Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore that was completed in 1434; it’s not only suspensefully gothic in design, but it’s the 4th largest church worldwide! As your day turns to evening, you can relax and stroll the cobblestone streets of the old town, and feel as though you’ve become woven into the fabrics of its very soul.

SIENA

The main village in Siena is considered the town square, and it has kept all its medieval allure of legends gone by. Many come here to relax, people-watch, and read while drinking a cappuccino or snacking on what some consider one of Italy’s staple foods: gelato!! Can’t beat it! Then, you can climb the Bell Tower of Torre del Mangia and see an awe-inspiring view high above the historical city. In addition, this village also hosts the Il Palio, the famous, world-renowned horse race beloved by many. An important note, however. You can only catch this famous attraction twice per year, on July 16 and August 2, so if this is of great interest to you, be sure to schedule your vacay during those dates! Next, try the Duomo di Siena Cathedral known for its unparalleled and detailed architecture. You’re sure to stand in awe and feel tiny in its majestic midst!

LUCCA

Lucca is somewhat outside of the “touristy” areas and has a naturally relaxed ambiance throughout. It’s known as the City of 100 churches! A famous area to see here is the City Walls of Lucca, built in the 16th century, encircling the entire village. To add some extra fun here, rent a bike for little costs at several bike rentals nearby! Down a little way from here, is my favorite place, Amphitheatre Square! This ancient acoustic echo chamber was built by the Romans and no place else in the world has anything of this sort! Within its walls are many places to quench your thirst and feed your bellies at the several bistros with outdoor seating, shops to buy what you need, and concerts to enjoy throughout the year. Oh, and don’t forget to check out the Delle Ore Tower, which is a clock tower from the medieval days! What is even cooler, is that they actually let you climb to the top which is so high, you can see for miles!

VAL d’ORCIA

If you’d like a quiet country setting where you can hear the slightest warm breeze wisp past your ears, try Val d’Orcia. This place is by far the most scenic landscape you’ve ever seen. Bring your cameras, because you’re going to want to show everyone back home the breath-taking sights you were privileged to witness, such as the emerald green hills, multi-colored flowers, tall grass, and ancient Roman structures. One unique area within is still inhabited by monks to this day and called the Abbey of Sant’Antimo. It’s a gorgeous castle built by strong Roman hands, beautiful in its simplicity and strength. It stands today, just as it was then, with little evidence of wear.

These are just a few of the must-sees of Tuscany. History palpably swirls around you, and you’ll never be bored with its art, homes, bistros, galleries, churches, towers, walls, wineries, and of course, food! No need to mention the food at various places within Italy, because ALL the food country-wide is amazing, authentically Italian, and tantalizing to the tastebuds! Enjoy your stay, and be warned; Tuscany will call your heart back time and again, promise!

The Douro Valley of Portugal is one of Europe’s hidden treasures and the perfect destination for a relaxing coach trip to the continent. Though it isn’t that well known, the Douro Valley is also one of Europe’s biggest wine growing regions.

Video Overview

A Wine Lover’s Paradise

Wine lovers in particular will relish a trip through the Douro Valley because it is home to some of the world’s best known red wines. There are forty varieties of the famed Porto grown in the region. The region’s largest city, Porto, also known as Oporto, has long been famous for exporting the highest quality port.

The region’s authentic Portuguese cuisine is the perfect complement to the wines. Porto, Portugal’s capital of fine dining, is also renowned for its seafood.

When you go to Porto, spend some time tasting the delicious wines on offer in the region. There are several wine tours through the city and its ancient cellars every day.

Coach tours visiting these cellars and the vineyards in the region are available. There’s even a museum dedicated to wine at the Instituto dos Vinhos do Porto (a trade organisation for the wine industry).

More Than Just Fine Wine and Dining

Fortunately, there’s a lot more to the Douro Valley than wine and dining. The region’s architecture is splendid. Porto is a UNESCO World Heritage Site containing hundreds of beautiful buildings, many of which date to medieval times.

Famous attractions in Porto include the Cathedral, the University, and the city centre. The architecture is among Europe’s most authentic because Portugal was spared the ravages of World War I and World War II. The Baroque architecture in particular is among Europe’s most authentic.

Legendary structures in Porto include the Dom Luis I Bridge, the Cleric’s Tower, and the Church of Sao Francisco. The kids will appreciate a visit to the Lello bookstore; rumour has it that the structure inspired the Ollivander’s Wand Shop featured in the Harry Potter books.

Coach Tours in the Douro Valley

Coach tours are the perfect way to experience the Douro Valley because they allow visitors to take in the area’s boutique wineries and outlying towns, including Regua. The wine lodge at Quinta da Pacheca near Regua is the perfect place to stop because it features a small winery, verdant vineyards, and fabulous dining.

If you do get tired of the wine and architecture, there are also some great beaches in the region. The Douro Valley might just be the best undiscovered region of Europe to take a coach tour to.

When you travel these days, you’re doing so in a more environmentally friendly fashion than you did a decade ago.

Airlines are flying planes that have more fuel-efficient engines and are lighter in weight to save on costly jet fuel. Architects are designing hotels to be more efficient in their use of energy and water, and to reduce waste. Rental car agencies are adding more hybrid and electric cars to their fleets.

Some steps have been forced on the industry by the threat of government action, sheer economics or customer demands. But some companies say it’s just good business.

Many associations, for instance, refuse to gather in hotels that don’t meet environmentally friendly standards.

“We actually have customers who are asking, ‘What’s the carbon footprint of our meeting?’ ” said Paul Snyder, vice president of corporate responsibility for IHG, parent company of InterContinental Hotels, Holiday Inn and others.

In a TripAdvisor survey of 700 U.S. travelers last year, 57 percent said they often make eco-friendly travel decisions.

Hotels are building green buildings or retrofitting old ones to be more sustainable. In 2008, there were only 18 hotels with LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, certification awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council, an industry nonprofit. Last year, there were 198 LEED-certified properties.

Green buildings, on average, use 26 percent less energy, emit 33 percent less carbon dioxide, use 30 percent less water, and produce 50 percent to 75 percent less solid waste, according to the building council. Hotels also are adopting motion sensors, key cards that control lights, fluorescent bulbs and ceiling fans aimed at saving energy. To save water, they’re installing low-flow shower heads and low-flow toilets. They’re recycling more and replacing individual shampoo bottles with large dispensers.

Airlines have saved more than $33 billion on fuel and prevented the release of 670 billion pounds of greenhouse gases since 2000, according to Brighter Planet, which measures companies’ carbon footprint. Plane manufacturers are building more fuel-efficient planes. US Airways, along with most others around the world, is looking into alternative fuels such as biodiesel, a blend of soybean oil and diesel fuel that produces fewer emissions and extends the life of the engine, said Vince Costanzo, managing director of Stations Operations Support.

Major car rental companies are adding electric cars to their already growing hybrid fleets.

• Enterprise has more than 5,000 hybrids and electric vehicles available for rent at 70 locations.

• Avis Budget has about 4,800 gas/electric hybrid vehicles available. The company keeps a small number of Chevrolet Volt electric vehicles at New York’s LaGuardia Airport.

• Hertz plans on adding more green vehicles to its fleet, said spokesman Lemore Hecht. It also has a car-sharing program.
