Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez Returns Home After Treatment In Cuba
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez told a crowd of supporters that he is feeling better after returning home from Cuba following his second round of chemotherapy.
“I’m doing very well. In fact, I’ve never been better,” Chavez said outside the presidential palace in the city of Caracas.
Mr Chavez has been receiving cancer treatment in Cuba after having a tumor removed from his pelvic area in June.
The Venezuelan government has not disclosed just what kind of cancer the president has.
Mr Chavez says he was in good spirits after his week-long visit to Cuba, saying the cancer had not spread.
The 57-year-old admits the chemotherapy treatment had taken a toll on him, leaving him “areas of weakness”.
The left-wing leader had his first round of chemotherapy in Cuba back in July 2011. He said it is too soon to know whether he will need a third round or not.
There has been speculation that the president, in office since 1999, will not be well enough to contest the presidential election in December 2012.
