The Asylum – 6 of the Worst
The Asylum are known for their B rated movies, some of them have done quite well, while others have been flops not making it very far when it comes to box office takings and leaving a sour taste in many mouths. Often these movies are inspired by other Hollywood movies in production at the time of their release. Here are some of the notable releases, with rankings according to IMDB:
The Apocalypse http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqYxYf9FJ30
This 2007 release has been voted number 27 out of the 100 worst movies on IMDB. This is a typical disaster movie where a mother and father search for their only child, while a giant asteroid hurtles for earth. You won’t recognise any of the actor’s names, the storyline is boring and it doesn’t offer what the majority of disaster movies do; which should be thrill and excitement.
Titanic II http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f720MNvOeVc
Titanic II is the story of a modern luxury ship that takes sail one hundred years after the original Titanic disaster. The new ship is named the Titanic II and follows the path of its predecessor. All is going well until a tsunami puts an iceberg in its path, leaving the crew and passengers’ scrambling to ensure that fate doesn’t repeat itself.
Transmorphers is a low budget movie costing only $250,000 to make. The video release is about alien robots which arrive on earth to beat the human race. The humans hide underground for four hundred years before a group emerge from the underground with a plan to beat these unwelcome robots. Written and directed by Leigh Scott and with a list of unknown cast members, this supposedly is the third worst movie released by the Asylum.
This 1997 release was a big flop, one of the worst movies made, which is based on a group who get drugs on the cheap and sell them on to make a huge amount of money. The drugs belong to someone else and they come to collect them from the abandoned warehouse where the group are counting their money. The drama unfolds as they are trapped in the warehouse with no way of escape and five armed killers after them.
2012 Doomsday http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcC4KhJQUq0
Four strangers are drawn to an ancient temple in Mexico on 21 December 2012, the last recorded day according to the Mayans. NASA scientists witness a polar shift, while the rest of the earth experience doomsday.
Directed by Nick Everhart and starring Cliff de Young and Dale Midkiff, this movie which was made on a small budget of $250,000 was filmed in Belize and was one of the worst movies made.
Megafault was a 2009 disaster movie starring the late Brittany Murphy which was not what people expected, from a $1,200,000 budget movie. The movie was drawn out and obviously B rated with poor acting and special effects. The story revolves around a seismologist who must work with a miner to seal a crack in the world within twenty four hours.
