Jonathan Vilma, Scott Fujita, Anthony Hargrove, and Will Smith are key defensive players on the Saints team and they have all been playing since the “bounty system” allegedly started. These players have been suspended for the upcoming football season due to their involvement in the bounty system. The bounty system is a program that was said to be a little game that the players had going with each other in the 2009-2011 seasons. The players had a cash pool and received money for injuring opponents and taking players out of the game.
According to the players, this system never existed and they are claiming to be innocent of any of these allegations. Vilma, Fujita, Hargrove, and Smith are all fighting for their rights to play for the upcoming season. The NFLPA says that they have seen no evidence of this program taking place and says that, as of 2011, the players should not be charged for their actions prior to the last season played.
