Everyone knows that candy is bad for you. The calories, the sugar, the fat—all of these factors force some people to remove candy from their diet or at least keep their consumption to a minimum. But like every other food, there are some candy items that are much worse for you than others. The following are five of the worst candy options on the market today.
Twix is one of the worst candy offenders on the market. One package of Twix contains 280 calories, 14 grams of fat and 27 grams of sugar. One package alone contains 11 grams of saturated fat, which is more than half of your recommended daily consumption of hazardous fats, and it is also equivalent to 11 pieces of bacon. If you want a candy bar to snack on, Twix would be the worst choice.
2. Fun-size Butterfinger Bars
If the fun size is on the list, you don’t want to go near a regular or king size Butterfinger. Most people would look at the small fun-size Butterfinger and think there was hardly any harm being done. How could something so small be so harmful? Don’t let their small size and tiny packaging mislead you. One fun-size Butterfinger contains 100 calories, 4 grams of fat and 10 grams of sugar. Though it may not seem like much, remember that this is all packed into a piece of candy the size of a quarter. And how many fun-size pieces do you tend to eat? The calories, fat and sugar quickly adds up.
Some people don’t like the taste of this sour candy, so they have nothing to worry about. But if you enjoy Airheads, you may want to find a sour alternative. Three pieces of Airheads contain 140 calories, 1.5 grams of fat and 19 grams of sugar. Since you oftentimes can’t eat just one Airheads, remember that if you go over three, you’re making matters worse. Airheads are typically made from sugar, carbohydrates and artificial coloring and flavors. This is the reason they’re so light and you end up overindulging.
4. Milk Maid Caramels
Brach’sMilkMaidCaramels appear to be the size of a penny, making you feel forced to eat an entire bag full just to quench your hunger. The problem is that only four of these buggers contain 160 calories, 4.5 grams of fat and 16 grams of sugar. Plus, 90% of the fats found in this product are saturated, which is bad for your heart. If you find that you can’t stop after eating just one, you may not want to start eating them.
5. Oversized Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
The abnormally large Reese’sPeanutButterCups, which include the Big Cups as well as the novelty ones that come out around the holidays, contain 170 calories, 10 grams of fat and 16 grams of sugar, which all add up to about two-thirds more of each ingredient than a regular-size Reese’s cup.
If you find yourself in the mood for some candy, you may want to stay away from the five mentioned on this list as they are the worst offenders. If you can, replace your candy craving for something healthier, as even candy items not on this list are not very good for you.
