Summer can be a difficult time for people without homes or those down on their luck financially. Just as with winter, the more extreme seasons seem to present more difficult problems. If you feel the call to help this summer, there are a few things you can look out for that would be very helpful. In this article, we’ll go over some of the items you should donate in the summer that can really make a difference in someone else’s life.

Personal Hygiene Items
Personal hygiene items are things that we take for granted a lot but are actually luxury items to a lot of people who can’t afford them. People always need these items, but there are some items you should donate in the summer even more. Think about donating some of these items next time you want to help:
- Sunscreen
- Deodorant
- Sanitary wipes
- Shampoo and conditioner
- Oral hygiene supplies
Non-Perishable Food
If you don’t have a house or apartment to stay at, it’s unlikely you’ll have a place to store perishable food for a long time. That’s why non-perishable food items are so important to donate. Especially in the summer when the heat is the worst, we need food that won’t go bad in the heat. As an aside, the best kinds of food to donate are healthier options, but don’t feel like that means you can’t donate canned food as well. Every little bit helps.
Hot Weather Clothing
Donating your old clothes, as long as they’re in good condition, is a good idea no matter what time of year it is. The summer is the perfect time to make sure that people who need donations won’t succumb to the summer heat. Donating clothes is one of the easiest ways you can help out. Just choose some stuff from your closet you no longer want and either drop it off at your nearest clothing donation charity or get it picked up by somewhere like the Purple Heart Pickup. It couldn’t be easier!
School Supplies
Schools that can’t afford all of their supplies need help from people like you. The summer goes by faster than you think, and eventually kids have to go back to school. Rather than make these schools wait for donations at the last second, consider making donations of school supplies during the summer so that schools have a better idea of what they’ll need for the upcoming year.
