Here are some of the most delicious recipes for the holidays.

Favorite Cranberry Orange Relish

Makes about 2 1/2 cups.



  • 1 12 oz pkg fresh whole cranberries
  • 1 orange

Place washed and drained cranberries in a food processor add 1 orange quartered with all seeds removed (some people prefer to peel the orange while others prefer to leave the peel on it’s all a matter of preference).
Pulse for a few seconds, until coarsely chopped. Scrape down sides of bowl periodically and pulse again leaving fairly coarse for serving.
Add 3/4 to 1 cup of sugar as desired to taste
Stir thoroughly and refrigerate at least 2 hours before serving.

Grandma’s Pumpkin Cookies

Preheat oven to 375 degrees



  • 1 1/2 c to 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground allspice
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 cup butter (set out for about 30 minutes at room temperature)
  • 1 cup white or brown sugar
  • 1 cup mashed pumpkin
  • 1 egg
  • 1 and 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • dried cranberries (if desired)
  • pecan halves (may use walnuts instead if desired)

In a medium sized mixing bowl combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, salt and allspice.
In another bowl use mixer at medium speed and cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Combine pumpkin, vanilla and egg. Beat well.
Gradually add flour mixture to creamed mixture beating at low speed until well mixed. Stir in chopped nuts and cranberries.
Using a tablespoon, drop dough onto baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Flatten lightly using a fork or the bottom of a glass. Press a pecan half (or walnut half if using walnuts) into the top of each cookie.
Bake 10 to 12 minutes until golden brown. Remove from oven and let stand for 1 minute before removing from pan to cool.

Fancy Christmas Ham



  • 1 country style smoked ham
  • 2 c. water
  • 1 medium to large jar of whole cloves
  • one (16 ounce) can sliced pineapple rings (drain juice and reserve for another cooking project)
  • 1 jar Maraschino cherries
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • olive oil spray
  • 1 Large Roasting Pan

Spray large roasting pan with cooking spray. Place ham in large roasting pan and score the top with a sharp knife. Combine brown sugar, flour and seasoning’s together. Rub seasoning mixture into top of scored ham. Stud the ham generously with the cloves. Pour water into pan around the ham and bake Ham at 325 degrees for 21 minutes per lb of ham.
Approximately 30 minutes before ham is done remove ham from oven and place pineapple rings on top of ham. Place a maraschino cherry in the center of each pineapple ring and return the ham to the oven to finish baking.
Remove ham to platter and place any extra pineapple rings and maraschino cherries around ham on the platter for decoration.

Fancy Holiday Ham Glaze

Place reserved pineapple juice in a medium sized sauce pan and place over low to medium heat. Gradually add 3/4 cup of dark brown sugar and blend together. Add a pinch of cinnamon, allspice and ginger to mixture and gently bring to boil stirring frequently. Serve with ham in a small pitcher so that guests can pour a bit of this glaze over their ham.

Cheesy Garlic Mashed Potatoes



  • 3 lbs potatoes
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (colby, chedder, jack, mozzerella etc.)
  • 1 clove garlic chopped (more or less to taste)
  • 1/2 to 1 of cube butter sliced into pats
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup milk, cream or half and half

Peel potatoes and chop. Place potatoes in a pan of water and bring to a boil cooking until potatoes are done. Drain potatoes. Add in butter and a bit of milk at a time to mash into desired consistency. When desired consistency is reached add in shredded cheese and chopped garlic and blend well. The cheese will immediately begin melting. Allow cheese to melt a bit and re stir the potatoes until all of the cheese is blended in. Serve with butter if desired. Delicious with or without gravy.
