Exclusive Look: Manny Pacquiao Barely Defeats Juan Manuel Marquez By Decision (Video + Images)
Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao fought hard for tweleve rounds with Juan Manuel Marquez in their welterweight title fight, narrowly winning the match with a majority decision. One ringside judge had it a 114-114 draw, while two others favored Pacquiao by 115-113 and 116-112. This was the third fight between these two men, and it was just as close as their first two. For this fight both men had to weigh in at 144 pounds instead of 125 as was their first fight seven years ago, which ended in a draw.
For their second fight Pacquiao and Marquez battled it out at 130 pounds, and Pac-Man barely won again with a split decision. Marquez was a 7-1 underdog, but it was clear he was going to give everything he had into this fight. Pacquiao won a few rounds thanks to his aggression and the fact that he was always in Juan’s face, while Marquez won others with brilliant counterpunching, keeping Pacquiao from getting inside.
The sellout crowd at the MGM Grand arena were not very happy with the decision, and threw bottles and cans toward ringside after the decision was announced, with one full can hitting a ringside writer. Pacquiao earned a minimum $22 million for the fight, while Marquez got $5 million.
