Bolivian Turns Waste into high fashion
Bolivian designer Marian Macedo began her work as a trained wallpaper designer, she became a clothing designer when her photographer husband did a photo shoot with a model wearing a suit made of newspaper. Macedo’s items were recently featured in the “Recycle Yourself” fashion show on November 17, 2011 in La Paz. Her pieces take about a week to complete and are priced at $250. Macedo uses recycled paper, vegetable dyes, cocoa bean shells & her own natural adhesives.
Macedo started creating her ecofriendly pieces in 2005. Macedo’s items have been spotted on French singer Anne-Laure Girbal. Her pieces have been featured in shows in Amsterdam, Paris, Tokyo & Madrid. Her bizarre designs include bottle cap blouses, skirts made of nylon bags and dresses covered with old compact discs. Although many critics & designers are not particularly impressed, Macedo continues to attract middle class women and future brides.
