Wade Davis Knew He Couldn’t Admit to Being Gay in NFL

In a story that he hopes may be able to help other men in his situation, Wade Davis has spoken up about his own battle of having to withhold the fact that he was gay while playing in the NFL.

Davis struggled with the knowledge and what he should do about it since he had been raised to believe that it was wrong to be gay and he believed that neither his biological family or his football family would accept him if he came out to them.

Now that he has been off the field for years, he hopes telling his own story may inspire those in the NFL to be more understanding. His fear of losing his place on the team as well as his fear of being ostracized by his teammates forced him into silence – a situation he hopes will no longer be the case for other NFL athletes.
