Places To Visit – Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse

Where can you enjoy libations while watching a cheap flick on the big screen in a comfy seat? At the Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse, of course. A staple for locals for the past 27 years, this theater on Columbia Pike has a little something for everyone’s entertainment fix. Aside from movies, which include current films, cult classics and special viewings, they also host live comedy and music. The theater has a small bar in the lobby which hosts live comedians on certain nights after the shows. Among the drink options are pitchers and bottles, with an impressive selection of microbrews, plus wine and mixed drinks. Aside from adult beverages, a full menu is also available at the Drafthouse. Their veggie pizza and loaded nachos are some of the standout choices.

Mondays and Tuesdays are $2 movie night. Yup, only two bucks gets you a seat. On all other nights, regular ticket prices are $6.50 each. Tickets to all events are available in the lobby box office or on their website at http://www.arlingtondrafthouse.com/default.aspx?page=calendar. If it’s a popular flick being shown, be sure to get in line early, at least 30 minutes, as the crowd of waiting viewers can sometimes stretch around the block. But for such a treat at the movies, it’s always worth the wait. When eager viewers are thirsty when in the lobby ticket line, they can grab a beverage at the bar, and drink it in line prior to theater entry. Before 9pm, the theater is open to those of all ages when accompanied by an adult over 21 years of age. After 9pm, the theater is 21 and up only.
As for special nights and showings, there’s always something going on. Fridays are Wine Nights: arrive at 6:15pm to purchase wine tickets. Visit the sommelier to get a 1 oz. per ticket pour of their weekly vino offerings. Certain times of the year also lend to seasonal showings. A Christmas movie marathon is a yearly tradition. One entry ticket gets you a seat all day for a full menu of showings of multiple films. Get there in the morning, stay all day, or leave and come back to watch the later showings of your favorite holiday flicks. If you’re a fan of ‘Office Space,’ be sure not to miss the bi-annual TPS Report Meetings. Check out their website for more info and events.
So grab a herd of friends, take a peek at the schedule, and head to the Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse for a night of fun (on a budget, too)!
