International Monetary Fund (IMF) Helps out Tanzania
THE International Monetary Fund (IMF) has loaned $12,500 to Uhuru Mchanganyiko Primary School in Dar es Salaam to support programs helping blind students. The IMF also provided five wheelchairs and 20 crutches to students with disabilities from Jangwani, Pugu and Salvation Army secondary schools.
Mr John Wakeman-Linn, The fund’s Senior Resident Representative, said “‘We are very happy to support these disabled children and today we are providing $12,500 to support them in education programs so as to make them more self sufficient.” The IMF has been working with non-governmental organizations and the Tanzanian government to ensure that the grants they provide are used correctly, and that the money reaches the people in need.
Mr Linn went on to say that in the financial year 2011/2012, the IMF have planned several grants to the Tanzanian school for the deaf as well as DogoDogo centre, adding that the IMF is expecting to give a similar grant next year.
Tanzania Resource and Assessment Centre for Children with Disabilities (TRACED) director Mr Ramadhan Mbonia says his organization will make minor rehabilitation to some of the dormitories, and to teach young children with disabilites skills to help them survive in life.
