Iranian Foreign Ministry Expels All British Diplomats And Staff From Iran
In a move that surprised absolutely no one, the Iranian Foreign Ministry has expelled all British embassy employees and diplomats in Tehran after the British government closed down Tehran’s embassy in London and kicked out all the Iranian diplomats from the country. Tensions have been mounting between the two countries for quite some time now, with the US and Britain targeting Iranian financial sectors with sanctions on Iran’s Central Bank and petrochemical industry.
British Foreign Secretary William Hague released a statement saying “The Iranian charge in London is being informed now that we require the immediate closure of the Iranian Embassy in London and that all Iranian diplomatic staff must leave the United Kingdom within the next 48 hours.” He went on to add ”This does not amount to the severing of diplomatic relations in their entirety. It is action that reduces our relations with Iran to the lowest level consistent with the maintenance of diplomatic relations.”
This move by the British government will severely hurt the chances for a peaceful resolution between the two countries, and maybe even go as far as pushing them into a war.
