Michael Bay has confirmed that Mark Wahlberg will star in Transformers 4. After weeks of denying the internet rumors over the stars role in the Transformers Franchise, Bay has finally confirmed that he will be added. Stating that the chatter caused him dream up a part for Wahlberg. Bay Called Wahlberg the “perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers’ legacy” in a post on his blog Thursday. Bay has said the next film will take a new direction in the series. Wahlberg will be stepping into the leading role position that has been previously held by actor Shia LaBeouf in the last three films. Details on Wahlberg’s character is currently unknown.
Having Wahlberg as the lead will shift the dynamic of the film, but will the lack of hearthob Shia steer away some of its viewers? Critics say not a chance. Mark Wahlberg is a box office hit and will draw his own crowd of a more mature audience. The special effects and the epic direction from Michael Bay that the Transformers movies are known for will keep the crowd coming. The movie will begin filming next spring.
Bay’s first Transformers film was a box office hit in 200, raking in more than$00 million worldwide. His second installment in 2009 grossed more than $890 million worldwide. In 2011, the third film was an even bigger hit and earned more than a billion dollars to become the fifth highest grossing film of all time.
This isn’t the first time the director has worked with Wahlberg. The pair worked together on the upcoming film “Pain and Gain” a film about personal trainers caught up in crime.
Along with the newest addition to the cast, the franchise premieres a new, sleek logo based on the Decepticon insignia. Transformers 4 is scheduled to be released on June 27, 2014 by Paramount Pictures.
