Keeping Yourself Fit After 40

When you reach an age where your prime has passed you but you are yet to be called a senior citizen, physical fitness can seem to be a very hard task to accomplish. This is mainly because the body starts is slow and gradual decline where muscles will begin sagging and skin will start drooping. At the age of forty, your body’s metabolism slows down and you tend to put on a bit more weight and it would seem as if your gaining weight faster than you did ten years ago.

To elaborate more on this topic of our body’s slow and gradual decline, we can look at the main reason why this begins to happen to the body. After the age of thirty, the body starts to lose muscle due to disuse or what is medically known as atrophy. And it is because of this natural atrophy that the body’s metabolism goes slower and slower that our bodies are left with unburned fats to store thus we gain weight.

The bones also start to lose its density at this age, which eventually will lead to osteoporosis. Just because we can’t feel the gradual change in our body system when we reach the age of forty, it does not mean we should not do something about it. In fact, this is the perfect time to really do something about our health.

The only answer to keeping fit at forty is exercise and proper diet. Exercise should not be thought of as an overnight answer to fitness. Exercising for one whole day will not guarantee you good health. The key is to exercise regularly. There are so many different exercise regimens that you can try. Various physical activities are available to suit whatever age, gender, lifestyle or health level you are in. The key is to simply make exercise a part of your day-to-day chores.

Just because you cannot do intense workout routines anymore, does not mean that you have to give up on exercise altogether. There are easy exercise routines that are perfect for individuals who are in their forties already. One of these routines is the use of a bounce back chair. This is a fairly new form of exercise. Some cannot believe that simply sitting on a chair and bouncing up and down can already be considered as exercise. But using a bounce back chair can actually rival other more popular forms of exercise. One of the best things about using a bounce back chair is that it is not only a good cardio workout, it is also effective in toning the different muscles of the body. This form of exercise also has other health benefits. It also helps in improving blood circulation and in the elimination of toxins.

There are many other ways to stay fit at the age of forty and beyond. It only takes your willingness, diligence, dedication and creativity to stick with a certain health regimen. Once you adopt a lifestyle that centered on exercise and proper diet, you will always feel youthful and energetic.
